How to get your home ready for a house cleaner

You don't need to clean before the cleaner comes. But a few minutes of prep means more of their time goes into cleaning instead of working around things.

Do a quick pick-up

A Standard clean includes tidying, but clearing loose things like mail, toys and clothes off counters and floors lets your cleaner spend more of the visit cleaning.

Put away valuables and private papers

Keep jewelry, cash and private documents put away. It's good practice with any visitor in your home.

Plan for pets

Tell us about your pets when you book, and keep any that might get out, or get stressed, secured or out of the way while we work.

Sort out getting in

You don't need to be home. Many clients give us a door code or leave a key. Tell us how to get in when you book.

Tell us about parking

Let us know where to park, especially if street parking is tight or there's a gate.

Leave out products you prefer

We bring all the cleaning supplies and equipment. If you'd rather we use your own products, leave them out and tell us in the notes.

What you don't need to do

  • Clean before we come.
  • Buy supplies. We bring everything.
  • Be home. A door code or a key works.
The Bay Area Shine app

A reminder and a checklist the day before

Booked in the app? The day before your clean you get a reminder and a quick checklist. Your door code goes in a locked field, and you can mark any room "no photos".

  • Book your clean and see the price before you pay.
  • See who's coming before the day: first name, photo, rating and reviews.
  • Follow it on the day: on the way, arrived, all done.
  • Get your Shine Report: photos of each room, so you can see the difference.

No download needed: book in the web app on any device. An iPhone app on the App Store will follow.
